Extension to the existing MRU, renamed as the Thornburrow Building, alongside the refurbishment and remodelling of the existing building into office accommodation for the University Hospital of North Midlands NHS Trust.
Underpinning was undertaken to the existing building prior to extension construction being put into hand. The extension works are of traditional construction using complementary brick and flat roof to be in keeping with the aesthetics of the existing Thornburrow Building. Both static and movable shelving was installed to provide storage for medical records. Associated mechanical and electrical services works were completed and the space was decorated throughout.
The two concurrent phases of the works included remodelling and refurbishment of existing building to repurpose rooms to provide offices, breakout rooms, toilets and kitchen areas for the new building users. New flooring, mechanical, electrical services and decorations were completed in all areas and new dedicated entrance and reception areas provided.
External works including the replanning of vehicle access and car parking arrangements were completed.
